Special Offer: Don’t forget to check out Broadband 1 Malaysia crazy price. Who can believe that anyone can enjoy unlimted internet usage for a mere RM25 per month. Click here to know more.
I am sure you already come across any advertisement about Digi Prepaid Internet. Is this prepaid internet a broadband? Yes and no. Any internet package can be a broadband if it can supplied necessary speed. In this case Digi prepaid internet can be a broadband if you have good Digi coverage in your area. Somehow Digi Prepaid Internet is not under Digi 3G package. When Malaysian said Digi broadband, they always mean the 3G package and not the prepaid internet. For a normal internet user that lives in Digi coverage area, this prepaid package is good to be considered if you want access to internet and portability. At the fair policy, Digi states that you will likely receive download speed up to 384 kbps if you are within Turbo3G network. That is what they told us, but know what? Many users have shown that they get speed better than that. I am one of the user, sometimes my download speed can even reach 2 Mbps (250 KB/s).
Even though I am satisfied with the speed, user still need to take care of the daily 3GB monthly quota. Once you used 3 GB, your speed will be throttled to 128 kbps. That is what Digi state in the ads. Somehow it looks like the rule doesn’t follow so much. Or perhaps it works differently to every user. This is due to the fact that sometimes I still received good speed (around 700 kbps) although I already exceed the monthly usage. On certain occasion, I can verify that I received slow internet connection after exceeding limit. It seems that choosing Digi is like entering a lucky draw.Since the usage limit for this Digi prepaid internet is the same as the RM60 broadband package, I conclude that the benefit of this package over broadband package is the ability to reload. That means you do not need to top up the prepaid internet if you don’t want to use it. For every RM10 reload, you can have internet connection for 5 days straight (RM2 per day automatically deduct). Let say that you are going to vacation but still need internet connection. Then that’s only the time you need to top up the prepaid SIM card. I think that is the best choice compared to subscribe a broadband billing package.
Oh, one thing I need to remind you. The RM2 per day is only valid for Digi Prepaid Internet that was activated before 1 March 2011. For activation after 1 March 2011, you need to follow the new reload validity. From the new validity below, it clearly shown that the new validity benefits customer that wish to use internet for a long time. Since RM 100 gives you 100 days to access the internet, you actually get a really good price of RM 1 a day. In other words, RM30 for a month. Isn’t that the best price out there for monthly internet connection?

Limited Edition Prepaid Internet™ at ONLY RM25
• Simple and easy – no activation required
• Preloaded with 5 days’ Internet Access
• Download speeds of up to 384kbps (within Turbo3G™ network)
• Enjoy seamless high speed Internet nationwide (Turbo3G™ and EDGE)
• Reloads available at many locations nationwideAlthough the price is good, I need to admit that you will hurt if you do not have any modem yet. A Huawei E550 modem costs around RM 120. That’s so expensive compared to the RM2 per day internet access. For those that want to opt for this package, these are good advices that you can take. First, just use any 3G mobile phone to connect to the internet. Before having Huawei modem, I used to connect to the internet by using my Sony Ericsson K770i mobile phone. I used the mobile phone as modem so that I can browse internet using my laptop. Second, you can just wait for any Digi broadband promotion such as the RM38. Such promotion usually comes with free modem with one year warranty. Make sure that there is no contract for the promotion package so that you can terminate the broadband service at the end of the month. By doing this, you might get a Huawei modem for just RM100 plus one month internet connection. If you think RM100 is still expensive, you can try to buy second hand modem at LYN or E-Bay.
How to activate Digi Prepaid Internet
Okay, enough of the chit chat. As you buy the prepaid internet, now you need to learn to setup and activate it. To configure the prepaid internet, the settings slightly differs according to the modem that you use. Just make sure to find something with value such as APN, Access Number, User Name, and Password. Fill the APN and Access Number according to the data below and just leave the User Name and Password blank.
APN: 3gdgnet
Access number:*99#
User name: <none>
Password: <none>If you are going to use it in mobile phone or iPhone, you just need to find something like ‘Internet Setup’. To be detail, you can go to iPhone menu and go to Settings -> General -> Network -> Cellular Data Network. Then you will find the similar field values that you can changed. That if you want to set the internet configuration manually. If you want iPhone to automatically configure the internet settings, you need to plug the iPhone into your computer and start iTunes application afterward. Then you will receive alert about available carrier’s update. Update it and then just restart the iPhone. Then gotcha, you will see that your iPhone internet settings has been preconfigured.
How to top up Digi Prepaid Internet
Digi Prepaid Internet is not like Digi broadband internet where you pay the monthly bill. Once your validity end, you can reload the prepaid internet just like normal Digi prepaid. Just put the SIM card inside mobile phone and reload according too reload coupon number. The same coupon number that is used with Digi prepaid will do the job. To reload instantly, type *128*< 14 digit coupon number ># and press call.
Digi Prepaid Internet registration
One of a good point of Digi prepaid internet is that customer is not bound with any contract or billing. Thus, there is no point to register the prepaid internet. Somehow MCMC (Malaysian Communications And Multimedia Commission) has taken security matter into account and existing customers of this prepaid internet is compulsory to register their SIM card at the nearest Digi outlet or Specialized Store before 30 Jun 2011. If registration is not done, your SIM card may be suspended.
